I found 12″x12″x3/4″ slate tile that is for sale in a local landscaping supply place.
I’m trying to find out weather I can install this stone on a front driveway covering it entirely. Will it hold the weight of a car? I can compact 4″ of crushed stone and then put the tiles into it. Another option would be pour a concrete slab and later install tiles on a thinset bed and grout the seams.
Will it hold the weight of a car? Will it will be a problem in the winter when the frost will get under the tile? I live in Jersey City.
Thanks

Slate tends to delaminate when it freezes. A car on top is likely to turn the slate into mush.
If it's really cheap, it might be shale instead of slate. Looks about the same, but gets soft when wet.
