In the pic below, I am converting my garage entry/hall and laundry room into a single mud room. I have removed the wall near the floor register which is also on its way out.
The mud room will get a tile floor. So time for my request for ideas:
The carpeted area between the mud room and kitchen (laminate flooring) is obviously a high traffic area. This would be the time to solve that problem by replacing the carpet in that area with the same tile as the mud room.
I am considering removing a “notch” out of the carpet and need to decide on if a simple rectangle arrangement or a diagonal “path” to the kitchen would look best.
My biggest concern is when the three materials come together – how goofy will it look? The “right” way to do this I think would be for the “notched” area to be made of the same material as the laminate kitchen floor – This may be an option but I don’t think I can get that material anymore (Nafco Vinyle Plank that needs to be glued).
If I end up putting tile there, then the three materials will meet at the transtion to the kitchen and I am afraid that will look like a an experienced DIYer did the job!
Any helpful thoughts appreciated.

How long is that transition from carpet to wood?
The full width of the kitchen and carpet transition is ~15'.
