I’m debating back and forth whether to frame with 2x6s or 2x4s. I plan on sheathing with 3/4″ to 1″ Thermax, insulating the attic to at least R-30, and carefully installing a poly vapor barrier. I rarely if ever see a new home framed with 2x6s here in S.W. Ohio. We have cool winters– temps average in the 30s and hot humid summers. Do you guys think the extra R-6 gained by using 2x6s is worth it, or is it overkill with the extra money going to better use elsewhere?
