Bought the Makita 14V combo set w/ extra drill and light from Amazon. $200, great deal.
Thinking it is still longer than i want, I am tempted to return and get a 9.6V. Question is……. Hitachi, Bosch, or Makita. All are about $160, none come with anything extra but they are all small, light and readily available.
Downside: There will be no battery sharing with any choice. No free stuff so it seems more expensive. Hitachi & Bosch are both Ni-Cad, will I regret that? I could use the free 14V drill as my old Bosch 18V is getting tired and the darn batteries are $80 each!!
Upside: Small, light, get the size tool i want. Plenty of power at almost 1000 ft lbs torque. What would you do?

check out heavydutytools.net and see if they have any deals, often they have some great deals but most sell out quickly.
Also, bosch is coming out with an impact that is slightly larger than their pocket driver. It will still fit in a tool belt and it very small. I played with it at the JLC and seemed to be a hit with everyone. I think the price is targeted at $150 but not sure, and it will be out in April or may. Torque is suppose to be 800 lbs.

Looks like just what the Dr ordered!!
Thanks for the tip & link.
Now if i can only be patient..............................?
I'm almost looking forward to my 18 volt cordless dying so I can upgrade without feeling guilty. Everyone loves the pocket driver and the impact is basically the same thing so they shouldnt have any bugs.
Not everyone. :o)
I liken it more to a toy or something the wife can keep in a kitchen drawer. Regular drill bits won't work as it takes hex bits only so you have to have those around and the thing carries a low rpm.
The standard Impacts kick azz and now I'm curious about this new model.
be that's all, no charge for that

The pocket driver is definitely for small tasks, its not a real drill/driver. But the impact has 800 lbs. torque. that should handle plenty as long as the batteries last.
The Bosch 12volt w/Ni-cad gives 1,050 torque which is plenty.
Will be interesting to see the reviews on the pocket impact.
