I was hired to rebuild a guard rail which was disassembled to repair water damage on the deck and home. The photo shows where the railing will tie into the structure. I told the homeowner that the stucco needs to be patched before I can build the rail. Well yesterday the guy who is going to do the patch came by with the owner. When I mentioned the obvious need to finish the flashing, this guy says it will be fine just stuccoed!
“I’ll patch tight to the metal flashing, there’s no way water will get in there.”
The owner asked if I would do it, which I could, but I told him that I didn’t want to be liable since this is directly over living space and I was just hired to rebuild the railing. He understood that, but I still reminded him of the importance of proper flashing.
I guess the point of this is amazement that this kind of thing can happen and be viewed as acceptable
It’s just wood.

more of a bump than anything, but I can't really see what is going on there with that small of a picture...
sorry about the pic here is a closer shot. Thanks for the bumpIt's just wood.
Wondering if the flashing is correct... it's kind of like wondering if this is the woman you really want to marry... there's that nagging doubt... it means the answer is no.
sorry if there was confusion, but the lack of counter flashing is absolutely wrong as pictured. The original post was just me expressing exasperation that anyone would stucco over this as is.It's just wood.
