Quick Books Pro? Gee, that was easy. It only took me . . oh wait, I guess I've had it for 2 years and am still figuring things out. If I didn't have an accountant in the family to call and ask questions to, I'd be useless with it. Overdesigned for anyone who isn't a CPA. Once you do figure out some functions, it works fine, but the issue is getting there. Way too involved. I don't have a solution other than paper tracking, and if you're interested in putting your $200 to good use, start reading the book over and over and over.
I just moved up from Quickbooks to Pro.
I did take a course in accounting at night school, and even so, a lot of the program is overkill for me.
But, I got the best price in the country (I think), and needed a lot of the features.
Besides, the other programs were too horrible.
At my age, my fingers & knees arrive at work an hour after I do.

I run a computer consulting business and one of my customers is a home remodeling business. He uses Peachtree Complete Accounting for Windows, I think you can find it on the Interent for $200.00. He paid an accountant a couple hundred dollars to get him set up. He loves it, he tracks each job with it to make sure he's bidding jobs correctly. A number of my customers have tried Quickbooks Pro, as long as you are very basic in your requirements it's fine, but if you want to track job costing or find Quickbooks Pro not enough, try Peachtree. I've used both Quickbooks Pro and Peachtree, I sent the Quickbooks back. FWIW
Thanks for the info, will look into it.
