For several years I have been redoing older tract homes. I have always just reblown the ceiling with acoustic and retextured the walls with a “crowfoot” brush. Since most of the cielings and walls are in rough shape this procedure worked well and was accepted by the market. Now I would like to modernize my walls with a “splatter” texture applied with a hopper. Im concerned with the “splatter” getting all over the cieling and the easiest way to sequence the job. Here are some thoughts I have come up with and would love to hear better ones:
1. Spray acoustic on the ceiling first and shield the “splatter” on the walls with a spray shield or some other device.
2. Spray the “splatter” on the walls first and shield the walls with a spray shield or builer paper so the cieling could be sprayed.
3. Spray the “splatter” first and let it dry. Then acoustic the cieling and take the oversprayed acoustic on the walls off with a 12 inch knife while it is wet.
4. Forget the acoustic and try an cover a rough cieling with a heavy dose of splatter.
Also am going to buy a pattern gun for spraying texture. Mabey I can forget all of the above is someone can tell me how to use it to cover rough ceilings and walls.
Thanks in advance…

I am in a similar situation. I have been asked by a client to texture new walls with a hopper and a knockdown technique. The ceiling is a new installation of tongue and grove pine and I am concerned with splatter. I would also like to hear the pros and cons of installing door and window trim before or after texturing. Does it matter?
