Im adding an 18ft leanto shed to the side of an old out building. The siding of the outbuilding is “barn siding” also called drop siding or cove siding. It is tonge and grove with a cove at the top edge. This is attached directly to the wall studs. I know of no method to attach a ledger for the roof and add flashing. Can not get under the tonge and grove to insert the flashing. Any advise will be helpful. Thanks

not sure of a complete picture, but
Remove what is necessary to get some blocking in there, Connect a ledger to fasten your rafters to (you can now fasten directly to the studs, notching and letting them in if you wish/lagging them to the studs if not. Rafter and sheet and flash the new roof (the blocking will give you a solid backer for that) and there you have it.
You can use structural screws (hex head) from someone like Fastenmaster, GRK, or SimpsonStrongTie to substitute for lag bolts, check their applications for your situation.
And use hangers on the ledger end of the rafters or an additional continuous ledger under them.
I'd say you have to remove some siding, using whatever means works. Attach the ledger to the studs. Roof and flash.
Since Calvin beat my post by a couple minutes, just do what he said.
