Concerning the above topic in your Jan. 2000 issue,I am concerned with the ability of primer and / or paint to bond to a mud mixed with soap.I am familiar with this practice as myself and some fellow carpenter friends once used this technique.I would suggest contacting USG for their thoughts as to how soap might affect their product’s ability to adhere to itself as well as to the wallboard.Furthermore the same question should be presented to your paint MFG.I personnally feel that the “smoothness” associated with using soap isn’t worth the chance of undermining the integrity of the product. Afterall, I use soap to REMOVE paint – don’t you????
