what are the posts holding up?
You gotta give us more info than that. A picture would be good, and you need to describe the construction. "Horse shelter" tells us very little.
You say you want to use 2x4s? Does this mean that the existing members are 2x4 (which would be quite unusual)?
Do you want to add the height at the top or somewhere in the middle?
Roof 1st
Take the roof off 1st, or jack it up depening on how it's attached. use blocks the same as your posts (4x4?) and then use 4 2x4 pieces to scab in the new blocks 1 on each side. If you prefer bolting, nail them in place with jsut a few nails staying clear of where the bolts will fall and then drill and through bolt.
This is just a run-in 3 sided shelter, right?
