Adding rigid isulation over drywall
I have a tri-level home which the family room is half underground. the wall that is underground is cold to the touch. In an effort to better insulate rather than tear off the drywall and reinsulate could you apply closed or open cell rigid isulation board and re drywall over it?Or maybe a better suggestion?

better to remove the drywall and get it right, but best is to know what you are dealing with to plan the best solution. That means making a hole in it to discover the situation. Is this wall adjacent to the rest of the house or facintg outward?
It may be a wal;l that can be filled with insulation in place. You need to know conditions - how is it built, what space available etc.

The lower wall underground steps into the room 8 1/2" s and is a concrete foundation, framed out and then drywalled. But your right more investigating is needed.
Better to rip it out. Could trap moisture. Best to have foam in contact with concrete.
