Im adding a addition on the back of my house and im real close to start the foundation. The addition is 20′ in length and 54′ in width. This addition will have a 2nd story to it basically mirroring the bottom but i see on the plans that the 2nd story goes back 7 inches onto the existing part of the house. Well 7 inches seems far but nonetheless my question is does someone know how i will tackle this part of the project seeing how the back of the house has the overhang of the existing trusses. I thought you werent suppose to cut trusses only to the first part of the gussets that are on the trusses. Any suggestion.
Thanks Jaybo

It should be speced, but generally one would remove the outermost truss and either move it inward to mount flush against the studs of the addition, or leave it out and just hang rafters on the studs.
It's more complicated if the overlap covers only part of the width of the truss -- in such a case a replacement half-truss may need to be constructed, though for a gable end this can be done on-site, since it can bear on the wall.
The details should be shown on the plans. If not, you paid for more than you got, it would seem. Have you asked the question of the designer?
I know how I would be doing it, but I have to assume a half dozen other details that you are keeping to yourself so far.
But basicly, the trusses HAP spacing in elevatio is probably equivalent to the depth of floor between first and second floors of the addition.

Thanks alot for the pic, this helps alot. So the new joists between the trusses wont have to be cut at the angle of the existing roofline. Just basically laid in place so it will fit tight when the 2nd story is erected. And its only gonna be a few places because there is only two rooms to the 2nd area one on either end.
Thanks
