Why do you want a standing seam roof under the shingles?
Wouldn’t it look better to match your other roofing?
Maybe a little more detail or a picture would help. At
least give us the basic configuration, roof slopes, and your
geographic location?

Mad Dog,
Thanks for your note. I have attached a Word doc drawing of the present and proposed addition. The house has a 5-12 composition roof and the addition will have about a 1-12 pitch, hence the idea to use the metal roof. I want to raise the rafters in order to be able to use standard doors to the exterior. I thought about doing the California roof, but there is a fireplace in the corner of the L which would complicate the flashing. However, I do want the job to turn out well, so I will consider anything! Our choices are limited in shape, because as planned, the addition wraps around a swimming pool. My location is Dallas, TX. Hope to hear from you soon and a prayer for the Cowboys won't hurt either!

I am preparing to add a symmetric leg along the other wall on to an existing 11x22 enclosed patio addition that has 2x8 rough cedar rafters on 2x8 headers attached to 4x4s on 4 ft centers. The roof is presently fiberglass. The rafters tie-in to the house by being notched and fitted under the overhang and over the header. I am thinking about removing the fascia and raising the rafters to attach to the house roof trusses, thus giving me about 6-8" more headroom and allowing me to raise the outside wall to a better height. I plan to use 1/2" sheathing and 3/4" rigid insulation, topped by a standing seam metal roof tied in under the shingles. Does this sound workable? If not, any suggestions. Thanks for any help available!
