Built one three weeks ago, depending on how close to grade the bottom of your floor joists are is going to dictate what materials you use. Within 10" around here and you have to use PT lumber. If you go with PT thats going to require special fasteners "hot dipped".
Mounting the ledger can be through bolted through your rim joist, with carraige bolts in my case 2 bolts every 2 feet with washers and two nuts on the back side. If your house has the "rim joist" used with I-joists install 2x blocking in between them and bolt away. Where the new walls met the old walls I used a california corner and lag bolted it to the existing corner of the house every 2 feet.

You might want to check on using "hot dipped" fasteners in PT lumber. The "fine print" says that only stainless hardware will stand up to the treatment chemicals.
Thanks for the correction Dave not sure why I typed that too much coffee probably.
Yeah, I know the feeling - lol
I only made that post because the stainless hardware issue seems to be growing and a lot of folks think that dipped galvanized is somehow ok. I figured that my quick post could help someone avoid a problem down the road.
FWIW, my deck structure is PT lumber (the green stuff) and I used galvanized hangers and dipped hanger nails on it. I also used deck screws to attach the redwood deck boards. I didn't know about the stainless requirement when I built it four years ago and I'm keeping an eye on it - lol.
