I have a very heavy door with four mortised butt hinges. The top hinge, as well as the third and fourth from the top, has what looks like an adjustment screw centered in the hinge. There is an “H” marked by the screw. The second hinge has the same type of screw near the top with a “V” marked by it. I assume these initials stand for horizontal and vertical. The door is sagging and there seems to be some play in the top hinge. Are these screws indeed for adjustment of the door? And will they correct a slight drag on the threshhold?

Andersen Frenchwood patio doors have adjustable hinges. They do move the door in/out and up/ down. I suggest you hunt up the maker of your door and search online for their install instructions b/4 you try to adjust.
step by step is the way to go, as you need to loosen the hinge "locks" b/4 you touch the adjusting screws.
can you give a name of the door manufacturer?
