I have a 4’x4′ acrylic glass block window above our tub. The blocks are usually half full of water. The exterior lumber (2X) is rotting. This may or may hot have contributed to the seal failure. I plan to replace it soon. I have a few questions and hope that the folks here can offer some advice:
Sounds like Hy-Lite makes a good acrylic window?
This is on the two-story side of our home facing west so there is no protection (roof overhang). The north Texas sun can be intense. Can I re-frame the outside of the replacement window with CT or maybe cedar? The final finish is paint.
I hope to order the exact same size window, so the wallpaper and tile on the interior is undisturbed. I can always add trim if I need to.
I originally wanted glass block, but the civil engineer missed the bump out in the foundation. The sill is doubled 2×12’s and the builder wasn’t comfortable with glass block because of the weight.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank You!
