advice on roof attachments

OK heres the deal I want to attach a permenant strip of wood to the fascia on my roof dormer for hanging christmas lights. In the long run it would be safer then climbing on a ladder or out on the edge of the roof each year. I’m worried about screwing through the aluminum into the wood and causing rot, and I can’t think of any adhesive that may work. Any ideas?
