Fellow travelers,
Now’s the time to register and make travel reservations for Affordable Comfort Conference. This year it’s in Columbus, Ohio and runs between April 3rd and 8th. But the cheap rooms and hot sessions are running out.
You can get rolling by calling 800-344-4866 or going to http://www.affordablecomfort.org
This is far and away the best building performance conference on the planet. It’s so big that one person can’t possibly get to see 10% of it:
96 workshops
71 short courses
18 field sessions in houses with real people
Exhibits, evening panel discussions, undocumented building science sessions in the bar and hot tub.
Marvel at a live model of indoor air movement in the TellTale House. Egg visiting government and code officials. Find out where to buy cool weatherization stuff at the trade show. Geeks even have their own energy analysis software lab.
If you need help bringing your service to the market, John Tooley will teach you to Sell Solutions, Don’t Buy Problems. You’ll see the lovely and talented Petsy Pettit and her husband Joe. McGregor Pearce will turn your stomach with hundreds of moldy house slides. Bill Rose takes off the gloves to discuss vapor barriers and ventilation. Bruce Davis asks: “So you think you have a ventilation system?” Mark LaLiberte has a jump start Building Science Primer and you need to see Foundations for Healthy Houses by Paul Majka (this was the best class I took last year). Worth the entire trip all by itself, Lugano’s Ice Damming & Attic Condensation session will be the last word these problems for the 21st century. (and you can take that to the bank)
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll ache under the load of handouts, and you’ll take notes until your fingers bleed. Yes there will be plenty of dense packed cellulose, air sealing foam, and backdrafted carbon monoxide for everyone.
The bottom line: After you get home and rest up, you’ll be a way better builder. You’ll know how to get more jobs, keep happier clients, and make a lot more money. Want proof? My phone company measures our business calls by listing special tracking numbers. The report came in today and we are running at a rate of 720 calls per year with no sign of slack in the winter. To be blunt, that wasn’t happening to my business before I attended Affordable.
Being there with you, Fred
p.s. If you think I’m full of it, talking about my experiences with insulation, venting, and vapor barriers, this conference is THE place to get information to prove me wrong.

Two trips to ohio this year? Ugh. Sorry Fred, I don't think I can handle that. Besides, we have this forum for all the answers!

*Yea Pat, but he got the one where he recommended enlarging an oven hole in a cherry cabinet with a sawzall!
*Does that mean you're hosting next year's event? Party in Vermont! "Fredfest 2001"
*MD,Don't be too hasty putting down that 2nd trip to Ohio. Walleye start their migration up the muddy Maumee in a cpl. wks. Come to Toledo, park in my drive, lose some lures maybe catch some fish (10/day limit), drive down 23 by New Riegel for some ribs, and then on to Col. (slow down through Delaware,Oh.) Think about it.
