A mechanic at work just came back from 10 days in Italy with his family of seven.. last year he went to the Carribean with the same family, he regularly goes all sorts of places whenever he get enough vacation time to do so..
He goes to Europe, Hong kong, Australia, wherever! NO he’s not wealthy, (He’s a mechanic) but he’s found a little known way to travel at a modest cost.
What he does is tracks tours that he and his family might like to go on.. They decide that these several places would be fun or interesting. and watch to see if they are booked up or there are seats left just prior to departure..
Let’s say that he has a chance at Greece or France or Hawaii where there are plenty of unsold seats the night before they leave.. He then goes down to the airport and waits with the family untill just prior to bording.. The tour is paying for all of the seats in that plane weither they use them or not.. so when he comes and offers $50.00 each for 7 seats that the tour director didn’t know he had coming in, they usually take the deal. Sometimes he’s able to get the rest of the tour thrown in or for another for another small fee sometimes all he gets is the round trip seats..
If nothing else he’s in Greece or Hawaii ,whatever with his family for $350.00.
If he has to find someplace to stay he askes the flight attendants for advice after explaining his budget. If they don’t know, he askes at the counter. No matter how expensive the location there are some reasonable priced places to stay even if they are out of the way and maybe a bit seedy..
He and his family eat where locals eat so meals aren’t terribly expensive. He says that his whole family seldom costs more than a thousand buck per vacation for the flight rooms and meals..
Public transportation is usually workable for him so he doesn’t usually rent a car.
He says that the worst vacation they ever had where absolutely everything that could go wrong went wrong was still fun because it was family time and they actaully laughed as things turned worse..
