I am interested in alternatives to vinyl, stucco, EIFS, wood, cement sidings that are prefinished and low maintenance. I have seen some commercial aluminum (steel?) products, but I cannot find them on the internet. I have an architectural design firm. I am also renovating my existing home. I am anticipating applying 2″ rigid insulation and OSB sheathing or appropriate nailing substrate to the exterior with a new siding over. Of course, cost is always a relevant issue.

Your local lumber yard should have a supplier for both Galvalum and Kynar finished steel siding. Both are virtually maintenence free, but may not suit your house's style.

Or maybe even one of those blue tarps.....Perhaps one of the blue tarps that has had the lines painted on it to look like siding? Seems I saw those mentioned here a year or two back.
Politics is the antithesis of problem solving.

what do have in mind ?
do you anticipate flashing problems ? non-conventional sidings create non-conventional problems

That's the most irresponsible answer ever.
It should be a green tarp. Aren't we all supposed to be going green? ;)

I should have been more specific and detailed in my description. I could not immediately find the type of siding that I had seen on a local building. I thought by inquiring within the building community that I could facilitate a search with little effort. Thanks for the sarcasm, though, it is very helpful.
btw, I just noticed you're new here, so please accept my apology. Just treating you like part of the club. If you can post a photo I'm sure you'll get plenty of constructive feedback.

You have an architectural design firm and you can't find anything? Most architects I've dealt with could find just about any building material, or anything that could possible constitute a building material, imaginable. They're the ones who know where to find all the cool stuff!
How about camouflage?

No problem, I'm happy to oblige. But what your asking is pretty open ended. Maybe if you could post a photo of the building you have in mind, that would be really helpful. Give us someting to work with.~ Ted W ~

Okay, we need to get some idears out there, that may or may not suit the requirements outlined. Get your thinking caps on boys and girls, it's time to get creative.
Aluminuminum aint bad, but how about "Recycled Tire Tread Shingles"~ Ted W ~

Hey, I was serious. Not alum cans mashed flat for shingles. I meant the AL shingles that are supposed to look like shakes like on Pizza Hut roofs.

Oh.. :}
Well you could have been more detailed. Actually, I was picturing aluminum plates, which would look pretty cool but certainly wouldn't be cheap. The stamped aluminum shakes would be a nice look.
Of course, I'm kidding about the tire treads, so I hope nobody is on their way right now to the junkyard to reap the harvest. But I'm also trying to get some ideas out there.
I saw a house some years back, where they had a mosaic of broken tile and colored glass embedded into the stucco. it was sort of a wind-swept abstract design. That was pretty cool. But OP said siding, so I guess that wouldn't fit the bill. ~ Ted W ~

My mechanic (Qtrmeg got his Suburban worked on there) has his siding all plates like that.got in a spot of trouble a while back, because the guy who checks him on state vehicle inspections noticed that one of them was still a valid plate not yet expired, so hit him with a charge for improper display of registration or some sort of goofy thing. The caar had expired but the plate hadn't yet, and he'd towed it in for junk. previous owner should have removed the tag I guess.

That's a good one. I can imagine the tickets they get for... parking on the lawn... improper display... driving too slow... no seat belts... I bet there's plenty more. ~ Ted W ~
