A while back, I received an overwhelming vote of confidence for Homasote to use as a flooring underlayment material.
Well, so far I haven’t been able to find a supplier for it yet (I’m not trying too hard either, though), but this weekend, I did come across a couple similar products at my local “home centers” one by Weyerhauser and the other by Emco, as best I could decipher the tags anyway. I was wondering if either underlayment material meets or at least comes close to the Homasote promises.
Thanks in advance.

Did you look for homasote here ?

The stuff has gotten damn pricey. We started using Advantech for subfloors 5 years ago and never went back. Since then we are using it for underlayment as well. It's more dense than homasote, but that's not always a bad thing. It's also nearly waterproof.

Don't know the situation so am not commenting on pros or cons between homosote or advantech...simply going to comment on price:
Pittsburgh, Pa region...can purchase a sheet of 1/2 inch homosote for $15.
Until recently, cost of 3/4 inch Advantech was $18 per sheet.
Lowes is now selling it (3/4 Advtch) for $16 per sheet.

I should have recommended that you check pricing for 1/2" or 5/8" Advantech. We use square edge material for underlayment, over the 3/4" T&G.
