Please don’t shoot me. This is a question about Aluminum siding. I know everyone here would rather stick needles in their eyes than install aluminum siding or answer questions about it.
But I’m trying to match 40 year old aluminum siding that is 8 inches tall, smooth and has a 5/8th inch butt width. It appears that getting that butt width is the problem. A couple of local suppliers say that everything made today is 1/2 inch. Does anyone know a source for the old size. I can’t believe with millions of homes with the old size someone doesn’t manufacture the old size. The problem is I installed one window on the side of the house so I’m just trying to replace about one square.
BTW, I tried to use some 1/2 butt width siding and I just couldn’t get it to fit into the old siding.
Thanks for not shooting.

I had to replace some of the same kind of siding a couple years ago, and was able to find it at one of the ABC supply stores in my area.
Thank you very much. I'm glad to hear someone has this product - at least as of a couple of years ago.
I assume you mean ABC Supply Co. of America http://www.abcsupply.com/
I just contact the ABC supply store in my area. They haven't a clue as to where to begin to even look for the 5/8th inch butt width. To speed things up a bit, do you happen to remember the manufacturer name on the product you used?
Thanks,
I've made some a time or two when I couldn't find a match. Find a sheet metal shop. They'll fix you up. 5/8" is a little tight for a portable brake. Probably need a shop brake.

But you all knew that. I detailed it extensively in my blog.
You could try this.
Cut the top lock off of the 5/8" piece. Stick a utility knife into the crease under the lip and score the length of it. Bend back and forth and it'll snap off.
Then put a length of 1/2" starter strip along the top of the 5/8" panel and nail them off.
Now you should be able to run the 1/2" panels.
How it'll look is a matter for you to decide...buic
who taught you that? that brings back so many unpleasent memories.
Memories of what?
Doin' alum. siding in the 70's like I was? buic
