I am installing a door to my back deck. I am looking for help on how you trim out the exterior once you cut through the aluminum siding. The door I’m putting in has brickmolding already attached as usual. As I see it, I will cut the hole, cut the aluminum the width of the brickmold larger than the hole, then end up with a nasty joint between the brickmold and the aluminum. Is there a retrofit j-channel you can buy or what’s the proper way to do that? Thanks, JA

Yes, you can use J-channel to trim it out. Cut the hole about 1/4" wider than the brickmold on either side and on top. Cut the J- channel to fit the exact dimension of the outside of the brick mold and slip it in with construction adhesive on the back just before you install the door. Install the door and then slide the J-channels tightly up against the brickmold and it will look like it was always there. You may have to temporarily brace the channel against the wall surface until the adhesive takes hold.
