Bought an item from Amazon just now. It was eligible of SAME DAY delivery, if you wanted to pay for it. I am a Prime subscriber so two day shipping is “free”.
2 day from Friday morning means Tuesday.
1 day means Monday – Add $4
Saturday Delivery – Add $5
Today – Add $6
Not a bad deal to not mess with traffic, store clerks and gas. (shoot sales tax would have been over $6)
I opted for Tuesday as the MacBook I am going to use it with is on back order from MacMall.
(NOt all items will be eligible for same day delivery. And it would vary based on the stock at the local Amazon ship point. My Makita slider shipped two day and I got it next day since it shipped from Dallas. It would probably qualify for same day.)

When is the deadline to order to get it the same day? how do they ship it so fast? Do they pay someone to run to HD and pick it up and deliver it to you.
We sell our product through Amazon,in order for it to qualify for prime shipping Amazon has to stock it. So we pack up our product and ship it to Amazon's wharehouse in Fernley Nevada they stock it (charge us a little) and ship it to you over night. They have regional wharehouses.
I'm not sure what the deadline is. I think it is 10am but it could be 3pm. I searched amazon to no avail, and my email in box. I sent a request in to customer service to ask. The search was of no help, they must use prospero.The item must be stocked at a local Amazon warehouse. Drop shipped items would not be eligible. Not every warehouse stocks every item. If I bought something that only shipped out of Tulsa, I'd by ship out of luck. I almost ordered my stuff as same day to just to see what carrier they use. I think I also remember the delivery time could be as late as 10pm. I'll post the responce for amazon when I get it.

How many warehouses does Amazon have? so you have to live within a certian mile radius of the warehouse? and do they use UPS or FEDEX? I dident think they shiped same day? Maybe someone from Amazon hand delivers it.
I have no idea how many warehouses they have.Dallas, Tulsa, Coffeyville Kansas, for sure.I remember the notice saying "Eligible Zip Codes" so yeah certain mileage radius makes since.Maybe at the end of the day they draw straws to see has to deliver everything on their way home. I would not think the volume would be too much, but I don't know for sure.Still have not heard back from customer service. Stay tuned.

Fedex has same day services, package and freight.
Amazon also haa same day delivery in the Washington/Baltimore area.

I asked what the deadline was for same day delivery, their non-answer is below. The areas stated as available and the pricing don't jive with I experienced this morning (Dallas and $6). I think he just found the script and sent it to me. Frankly, I don't think Mohan S. could compose the following:

About 10 years ago I ordered a repair part for a computer at our church about 1AM. Asked for next day service. About 11AM (slept in) the doorbell rang and there was the part.
(A lot of suppliers maintain warehouses at hubs like Louisville or Memphis, so an order can be on an airplane within minutes of receipt. In some cases the warehousing is actually performed by the carrier. I believe that this is part of Amazon's business model.)
