I am putting an addition on my home in Massachusetts (950 square feet, 1 story with a cathedral ceiling) and my general contractor bid a Coleman A/C unit and 90% efficient Coleman gas fired furnace. The HVAC subcontractor is recommending American Standard (Trane) for both units and says it will cost an additional $1,500. The warranty, efficiency, and outputs are the same for both brands. Does American Standard cost that much more? Is it worth it? What would I be getting for the extra money?
