wow, and it's out of stock :O
Ductape can fix EVERYTHING!!!
Which would explain why its so expensive.
Prolly only makin' em one at a time.
$2,700 for a straight edge.....KMA.
Can't wait for the yahoo who bought the one they made to saunter in here and tell us all how much better it is than Festool, or EZ.
Beware the bikini clad female.
She may be interpreted as offensive.
Man, that carpenter's chain saw looks bitchin'! I could have used that the other day.
A strip of plywood, a straight 1x2, a bottle of glue and a few brad nails... $18
Porter Cable sidewinder... $85
Saving a couple thousand bucks... Priceless!

Who would buy this at that number

"Who would buy this at that number"That's pretty much the same way I feel about Festool. Who would buy a $1000 miter saw and who really needs a $700 dowel machine. Mafell probably stays in business because of it's timberframing tools...although, I don't see THAT much timberframing work going on. Eventually, these companies will weaken and big ol' Black and Decker will swoop in. Then we will see the Festools at cutrate prices sitting right between the Ridgid and Ryobi stuff. And Festool groupies will cry. ;)BTW: if I was rich and did buy a Mafell saw, THis is the saw I would buy.http://www.mafelltoolstore.com/fsg240ktwcis.htmlgk

And the 3 phase 450KW generator on a flatbed semi to power all your other two man portable power tools?
boy you much be one strong mother
Same people that would spend $100 on a level, when you can get the same stated accuracy in a $25 level. Lot's of Stabila owners here I'll bet.As much dust as my Dewalt slider puts out, if I could get a slider that was pretty much dust free, it'd be very easy to justify a $350 premium to get a Kapex and do indoor dust free cutting. The better accuracy would be icing on the cake.Sheet, the Dewalt sliders cost $679, so it'd be a small price to pay for client happiness and less cleanup (assuming it worked well).Being able to cut sheet goods perfectly accurate - even MDF or particle board with the Festool saw/guide/vac setup with virtually no dust indoors is amazing and worth the cost. No shooting board in the world is going to give the same chip free top and bottom cut on Melamine as a Festool or EZ system will.Want to do it cheaply - use a crappy shopvac with a good filter. And by the time you get into a EZ setup with a Hilti saw (as they recommend) you're not a whole lot less, maybe more than a basic Festool system, albeit with cheaper blades.Depends on what's important to you.JT
Julian,I don't understand what you are talking about as far as the Kapex is concerned. What do you mean by "better accuracy"? I have a Makita that is perfectly accurate and has been since I bought it for $600 about ten years ago; and I'm not BSing when I say accurate, my standards call for only perfect miters...no gaps, no caulk, no putty, picture frame quality trim carpentry and cabinet building. When hooked up to a dust vac it produces little dust. The new Makita sliders have a small rubber flap behind the blade that makes them dustless. I don't know what the EZtrack system or a Hilti saw costs and I don't care to pretend that carpentry isn't a dusty trade. I just do my job very well and clean up very well afterwards. Not to make excuses but sometimes cleanup is a great time to reflect on the day's work and plan for the day ahead. BTW: glad to hear you are happy with your new Festool setup. I have been thinking about buying the 33vac before the price increase in March/April.Have a good one GK
I was referring to G Katz comments that it is super accurate when doing long bevels. Not to mention the rack and pinion bevel adjust - my Dewalt 718 is a PITA to set and adjust the bevel settings.I'm all for making messes, but for instance, when laying flooring - the only mess being made is from the chop saw - if I could eliminate the mess and airborn dust for an extra $300 or so - might be worth doing.Aside from price, never heard of anyone unhappy with a Festool purchase. I'm not going to rush right out and get one, especially if it was OVER $1000, which is what they are all saying it will be.But if it's at or under, might be worth a checkout.JT
The dewalt 12" slider is $579 on amazon, and the kapex will probably be around $1200 from what I've heard on it. Also, the kapex is only a 10" saw, so you would be in the $400's for a 10".I would get a dewalt, bosch or hitachi and get a chop saw hood before I even considered the kapex. You would still be around half the price of the kapex. When the new price increase goes into effect, the festool jig saw will be $300. You can get the new bosch, 1591 for around $150. With this round of increases, and I'm sure more next year, they are really getting far too high for people to consider them.
and the kapex will probably be around $1200
I agree that that will be a hard pill for anyone to swallow. You can get two very good sliding miter saws for that money and be way ahead.
With all due respect to Gary Katz how does anybody know that the saw will cut that much better then my Makita's or Joe's DeWalt or .............I'm not buying that hype.
Maybe it'd be a great saw if it stayed at home and only got used by ones self but how would you like to be out on a job site and come around the corner to see some shmoe cutting a piece of 2 X 4 that had just been ripped off of the concrete!
Doug
Doug,"With all due respect to Gary Katz...."If Festool just gave me any tools I wanted then I would probably call them the best too. Norm probably tells all his pals how great PorterCable/Delta tools are. "Maybe it'd be a great saw if it stayed at home..... "What would be the point of owning that!?!? My tools make me money! If I am trimming a house I want my best saw with me. I don't abuse my tools for sure but If I'm working and I gotta cut a concrete coated 2x4 then I will. Tools need to be used and they all wear out then must be replaced (unless you are a hobbyist using Festool...you'd have to see my other Festool rants to know about that). I'd much rather use/wearout/replace a good, reasonably priced tool than a very good, very expensive tool. gk
Julian,Did you get a Festool vac with that CL deal? Just wondering.GK
I picked up:Festool CT22
TS55 saw
Trion Jigsaw
100" rails
Rotex 6" sander
+ a bunch of blades, sandpaper and accessoriesFor $800, would've been $1900 retail.Easy for me to sing the Festool praises when I got into it for 40% of retail (and they were new). But after having and using them - I'd probably buy em at full cost.In regards to the vac, as cool as the Festool CT22 is, I think I like my Fein Vac better. Seems more durable and is quieter. Slick stuff, the saw and the sander are the gems - the jigsaw is a tank, but you'd be fine with a Bosch for sure. I bought the Domino to join some railing on a fancy staircase job last year - that was my first green one.Unless the Kapex was $850 or so, I'd still probably not splurge for it - been pretty happy with the Dewalt 718 slider I have.I got an amazing deal on the Dewalt - bought it for $499 at Costco, but it came with a Series 60 woodworking blade ($65 value) AND a complete Dewalt 9.6 volt drill kit with two batteries ($89 value).JT
Julian,"In regards to the vac, as cool as the Festool CT22 is, I think I like my Fein Vac better"Just wondering why, I was looking at buying a CT22 or CT33 from all revews they are considered to be the best. I've used a CT22/OF 1400 combo. I didn't much like the router but the vac was impressive. I've used the Fein vac too. I liked everything about it but the wheels; they're too small.Wanna make a deal on the CT22?gk
No - I like it enough to keep - how can you get rid of something so cool looking? It's just that the Fein is better suited to "FINE" work as well as rough work, and the bags are cheaper and it just seems tougher. I already broke one of the tabs off of my CT and it wasn't even cold out.Plus, the Fein is quieter. And it's cheaper, so for those reasons, I'd think it's be a better value. For now, my Fein is doing duty as a tablesaw/router/sander dust collection system in my basement. It's easy for me to buy tools, but not so easy to get rid of them...JT
JT, care to explain how you came by the screaming deal on the Festools?
Thanks
Jim
Craigslist ad on a Sunday afternoon.Answered it immediately with just enough time to get to a grocery store bank branch to pull out the cash (lucky me they were open till 3pm on Sun)One hour drive - figured it was too good to be true the whole way up.Turns out, the guy's brother bought all of this stuff new (and a bunch of other stuff), and had passed away recently. They had researched the stuff and listed it at 1/2 price to get rid of it.Got better than 1/2 price due to the accessories/blades included. Gave em exactly what they were asking for it though. Also picked up a brand new Makita 16" circ saw for $275.Couldn't believe it the whole way home. JT
You lucky bastidge!!
Did that three wheeler and the ridding pony come with the deal!

Ha!Those came with my beautiful little girl...JT
one man's death is another man's treasure
Definitely a sad situation - the guy was equipting himself to be a custom log home builder - they had a ton of timberframing tools as well. I helped them out by placing a thread here for some of that stuff and he had the stuff sold within a day or so I think. The guy knew what good tools were though - they had sold a lot of the larger stuff in the area up north where his brother lived.I certainly didn't go and try to drop the price any.Nice people.Obviously an amazing deal, but they were happy to see the stuff go to someone who was going to use em, as opposed to someone who'd just turn around and sell em to make a buck.JT

With all due respect to Gary Katz...."
I only threw that in there so I don't have to listen to all the "jump on the Gary Katz bandwagon" people. My experiences with Katz are well known on here. I believe that he's hawking tools for several companies and therefore you aren't going to get any bad reviews regarding those tools.
Hell I'd do the same thing if a company pays me too, same thing Bob Vila does with Craftsman, Norm and PC, Tommy with Festool and.........
"Maybe it'd be a great saw if it stayed at home..... "
I was being a smart azz, I use my tool as well but if I spent $1200 on a chop saw, which I don't see happening, you can bet that it wouldn't be out on a job site for some one to screw with.
I do own a festool, the jigsaw, I think it's great but I bought it used. I have use of someones Domino and it's a good tool, I doubt I'd pay as much as they're asking for to get it though, because I can do exactly the same thing it does with routers and jigs, plus the router will do a whole lot more then make simple mortises.
Doug
DDay,"they are really getting far too high for people to consider them"I have to believe that will eventually lead to their demise. What do you think their cost will be after they get bought by ol' Black and Decker. Think DeWalt, Elu, Porter Cable, Delta, even Baldwin Hardware. All used to be concidered high end, now they just represent mediocre tools at reasonable prices.GK
Who would buy this at that number
Probably someone that needs to cut/rip fiber cement board with a saw on a regular basis, and doesn't want to breathe the dust or create a huge dust cloud at the jobsite.
