Installed an Andersen Frenchwood entrance door for a customer a little over a year ago.
Since then, I’ve been called back twice for minor adjustments.
Door was installed in a new RO as part of a larger project. It was installed plumb and square all the way round. At the time of installation, there was no need for adjustments. Door swung freely with an even reveal at jamb when closed.
After a few months it appeared to “rack” within its frame. (The door itself…..not the jamb.) Using the supplied hex key, I adjusted the hinge pins and was able to easily reset the door in its jamb.
Went back today because the problem had recurred. Same adjustments quickly squared door up again. It did seem as though the set screws were extremely loose within the hinges when I began. Much more snug after adjusting.
I’m wondering if others have run into this? Is there a permanent fix? Can’t imagine, but is change in weather having some affect? Should HO plan on adjusting from time to time?
I want to contact Andersen, but was hoping for input from the field beforehand.
TIA!

I have installed about 10 frenchwood doors by andersen. I havent had any problems with any of them, except the one in my house. For 2 years now, i have to make love to that thing about once a season! I guess thats what i get for new england living (the climate changes and all). Anyway, give andersen a call, and they'll send someone out to look at it (at least they used to). Just be ready to hear them say that it was installed wrong. I think thats what they're trained to say....lol
millsie....Thanks for the input! LOL

Believe me, I know that they're good doors, but I did everything in my power to talk my executive secretary (aka wife) into another door, but in the end, I lost, and we have an andersen.....lol Oh well.
I had the same problem, worked well for the first year and them it rubbed - adjusted and it was ok for awhile and them it really started to rub on the threshold -- it was at this time that I called Andersen -- they do not come out and adjust the doors because it is not within the warranty -- they were very nice and gave the name of a guy on their list for such adjustments -- $185 to come to the house.
$185 to adjust the hinges?
Mebbe I'm in the wrong business after all.
Has the problem been resolved?

seriously thinking about calling Andersen and asking if they need a rep in this area -- I really think they need one that returns calls and is more customer focused -- wait time was over a month and took 3-4 calls to coordinate
You paid the $185 to have your hinges adjusted?
sledge - sorry to take so long to get back to you -- just noticed your asked -- I actually was prepared to pay the 185 but the guy keept jerking me around and I said to myself -- I'll spend and hour and do it myself -- took a pair off the door and learned how to do it -- and took care of it -- called the guy back and said the installer finally showed up.
Am retiring soon and thinking of asking Andersen if they need a repair guy in my area -- lots of work and guy that is on their site is 1 1/2 hours away -- just does not make send for a firm the size of Andersen -- all the best - Dudley
Think before you call. Reparing windows and doors is much more then taking an allen wrench to a hinge.
Imagine being up in a 2 story foyer over some very expensive Indian marble from a quarry that is defunct because of an eathquake.... Replacing a 300 lb pc of glass that fogged up. Only to realize 1 second after you should have... somethings wrong. The builder broke the outside pane and had some hack come in and silicone a new piece to replace the broken one.
Peaches and cream it ain't, mix in cover your butt corporate wannabes and you'll begin to see your door adjustment was never an issue.
Oh and throw in after a day like that expect to be home after dark and return 9 phone calls... hopefully only 2 or 3 will be people that need their hinges adjusted.

I suspect that the door was actually hanging most of it's weight on 1 hinge when it appeared to need no adjustment. With alittle wear the weight distribution changed causing this issue. They have new hinges available that no longer use the set screws which keep the adjustment screws in place. Much more user friendly.
I doubt Andersen will send a service tech for hinge adjustment with out a charge.
sledge....thanks for the input....I'll look into the new hinges.

They just became available yesterday. In order to make them work you'll have to bore a small pocket within the footprint of the old hinge. They are also available to match the rest of the door hardware.
