My old house came with a big ol’ Viking six burner gas stove with a Viking hood.
The hood if I bought it today would be about fifteen hundred bucks.
Problem is that it has to vent to the outside which is impossible.
Viking tells me there are no conversion kits for it.
I thought to rig up the front of the two blowers with filters that they use on ductless hoods and tape up the back flaps that open to the outside but on the back of the hood it says to always have fresh air to that area so that has me concerned.
The other option I thought was to install a smaller non venting hood within mine…cut the chrome backsplash that the stove also came with that I wont be using to close the areas around the new one onto the Viking so it looks part of the Viking.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Be blown 🙂

Hi Andy, I'm guessing what this thing looks like, but the only reason I can think of that they would call for fresh (ambient?) air around vent would be potential heat build up. Does that sound right? If so it may not be an issue in your case. Got a pic or two so we can visualize better?

I have to agree with MoJo and you and I think maybe I should try my idea with it on the ground before I install it.
Tape up the back vent flaps that use to hook into the ductwork....maybe cut a hole in each vent flap...install a small 1" pice of pipe and cut that into the sheetrock behind it that backs into a hallway for fresh air....and hang a picture over the pipes : )
geezzz the things we need to deal with...lol

Andy, Viking does make a re-circulation kit for a couple of their models. Those hoods and backsplashes are expensive. It might be worth it to sell the unit and get something that will work in your situation. The value will certainly diminish if you cut it up.

Thanks for that link....DW called them and they said they don't have recerculation kits for my model but I'll recheck it out.
Its what I'd call a commercial stove and hood vent. Kinda large.
Thanks again bro

Andy, I've used a Broan hood insert for custom hoods. Any reason you can't treat your Viking hood as a custom unit, gut it, and stick one of these units in it:

I'm going to give them a call and see what shakes.
