I am about to attack a hip roof tomorrow and I am short on experience in roof framing..so heres my question. My addition is 23 feet wide and 14 feet deep. I have a wall running down the middle of that 23 feet. I ran the joists and overlapped them on top of the partion wall. How do I fram out the rafters now. One side of the house the rafters will land on the wall right next to the joists like it should,..but on the other side the rafters will land ON a joist. Can I offset the rafters on the ridge, and offset the jack rafters on the hip…can you do that without getting a red tag. Please dont tell me that I should have butted the joist on top of the partition wall. I didnt think there was enough bearing surface. And when I have seen framing donr I always see them overlap joist on a load bearing wall. Any replies are appreciated
