In our addition we’ve put in a Mexican Saltilo tile floor. It looked great, until we put the final coat of (I think it’s a urethane type) sealer on, which dried to a extremely high gloss finish. The SO is not pleased . How do I reduce the gloss of the floor. Can I brush on a matte finish sealer over the high gloss? Or should I invite a marching band to hold practise on my floor with spiked boots?
Cheers

If you used Saltillo sealer (the one I use is RoVal Formula 1044 water based gloss sealer) the gloss finish will wear down to a soft matte very quickly with no marching band. In our house it takes a week or two.

I think you should not be using Mexican tiles since they're taking up space that could be covered with American tiles unless you can't get American tiles to lay there, in which case it's OK.
I invented the salted tomatilo.
Maybe American Tiles woulda worked, but you'd never be able to walk all over em.

BigER, hate to follow a question with a quesiton, but if you don't mind me asking...where did you get your tile and what was your cost/sf?
BTW, enjoy the gloss while it lasts... it's not likely to be there long. We had a saltillo floor years ago that we tried to keep shiny to no avail.

Brian,
Up here in the Peaceable Kingdom, in Thornbury,ON, the tiles, thinset, grout and sealer cost to do 360 sq ft worked out to about $1200.00 CDN+-, or $3.33 CDN/ sq ft (The sweat equity is high however.)
