Do you have any local custom cabinetmakers? There are a lot more of us around these days. Check with a hardwood supplier in your area for leads.

When the state's parole board became more lenient and released more prisoners, we had an increase in the numbers of sign makers and shoe repairers available. Does this relate to there being "a lot more" cabinetmakers?
I've seen the kind that are reminiscient of old barber shops in catalogs like Van Dyke's (www.vandykes.com)in kit form. Just be sure it has a razor blade slot in the back.

To Barry:
No , I don't think so. But it probably increased the number of psychopathic nuts posting hostile messages on the internet.
As far as there being more custom cabinet makers doing business these days, just look around. Check the woodworking bulletin boards. Notice how customers are interested in fine detailing in their homes. Look at the custom woodworking required to restore/repair historic homes.
People like me have figured out you don't need a quarter of a million dollar shop with several employees to make this stuff. This is what I do for a living. I promote it when I can.
Any other questions?

It's apparent you have to use a stupid emoticon for tongue in cheek or you get accused of being a psychopath.

Barry,
Without benefit of the visual and auditory cues we get in face to face conversations, it IS hard to recognize dry humor. I actually took your comment to be TOC. Why? Because we don't know each other and therefore have no quarrel with each other. After I sent my reply, I wanted to go back and edit a :) or somesuch into it. Unfortunately I got tied up in real world (non-cyber) problems to deal with before I had the chance. So really, I don't think emoticons are stupid. They just indicate the sender has a grin on their face. Why don't we wind this thing down now so the whole board isn't subjected to poisonous runoff? :)

Steve,
No harm, no foul.
Carol,
I did a lunchtime check in my old books on bathrooms at the turn of the century through about 1920, and only a few of those pictured had any wall cabinets at all, and then they were away from the sink. The sinks had mirrors hung over them. I don't know when the "between the studs" cabinet came into being, but my 1930's house has one original to it, including the razor blade slot. When I removed it for papering the wall, I was happy to not find a bunch of gunky blue blades behind it. One thing I did notice about the wall cabinets is that they were all painted, and they looked pretty conventional. Some had beaded doors. Steve may have the ticket. If you have a particular concept in mind, you may wish to approach a cabinetmaker. I've lately found as a university buyer that custom cabinetry is price competitive with pre-manufactured, and it'll be what you want.
