My Porter Cable random orbit sander seems to have bit the dust (pun fully intended).
I have a pretty large supply of 5-hole hook & loop paper stocked up. I’ve looked briefly online and found Bosch, PC, Dewalt and Makita sanders but they are all 8-hole designs.
Can anyone recommend a good 5″, 5-hole, H&L ROS?
Alternatively, does anyone know if 5-hole paper can be used effectively on an 8-hole sander? I.e. will my paper line up on top of 5 holes of the 8-hole pattern? (seems unlikely but I just thought I’d ask…)
Thanks in advance for any info.
Bob

If you line one hole up, one other hole will line up a little. The rest are covered. BTDT.

I have accidently bought 8 hole for my 5 hole sander. Like RW says, one or two holes will line up.

get a 8 hole sander...

Yah, wish I could. I bought 50-disc packages of every grit from Klingspor and of course I've used some of each.

I was king of wondering if that is possible. Specifically, I wondered if the 5-hole pad from my old sander would fit on a new PC 8-hole sander. I think I'll call PC and ask them (unless someone here already knows the answer). Thanks for the suggestion.
new pads are available in 5 or 8 hole...
PSA or hook and loop...
some brands will interchange...
most paper vendors have them...

Great. I'll check into that too. Thanks again.
Ok, confeesion time. I had a PC 5 hole and I wore out the velcro. Went to lowes or HD and they had non-PC brand replacement pads. Looked like it would fit so I bought one. Fits, fine, works great. But I bought an 8 hole witout knowing."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

Or a paper punch.
I've been quite happy with the pc 7335 , own 3 of them, 1 has gotta be 15 years old, they still make them 5 hole. Dats what I would buy.
One of mine, either the Dewalt or the Ridgid, has slots instead of holes in the pad so either type paper will work.
'Course both those sander died early deaths so I can't exactly recommend them without reservation.
Thank you, all! Great advice from many directions and I appreciate it all. Now I have several good ideas for how to fix the sander or use the discs on another. Thanks!
I had the same problem. Check out Mirka abrasives. They have all sorts of paper to fit pretty much any ROS you have.

I've bought them from Amazon.
Bob,
My two DeWalt ROS's have Velcro pads that fit either 5 hole or 8 hole paper. Some of the holes are slots, others not. I use 8-hole paper for 66% better dust collection :-).
