Anyone know of a good forum to get answers.
My dryer (whirlpool model ggw9240pw2) won’t take any command. It just beeps three times. This happens on all setting including the manual settings. The beeps are a standard warning that occurs when someone trys to adjust a manual setting when the machine is in an automatic cycle mode. It’s basically saying “don’t bother trying to adjust that knob, Dork!”.
Is this a fine homebuilding question? I think so because homebuilders often supply appliances when building new homes. I know it’s a stretch. I’m just trying to figure out if I can fix this thing or if I have to call for service.

If the reboot doesn't work. Google do it yourself appliance repair.
and if that doesnt work, get a bigger hammer
The reboot suggestion is valid, often works.
You may have a partially conductive path on one of the keypad contacts. These are prettyc cheesy to start with, and when put in the laundry room with high humidity and splashing water, anything can happen.
Worst case, if you want to try before needing a new panel, is to peel it apart and get it dry.
Interesting that there have been a few threads on this type appliance repair lately. One person said it was 'unrepairable' - hah, anything can be fixed or reverse engineered.
set it out on the front porch..
let the redneck in you out...

First I'd make sure the door is closed. There might be lint blocking the door from closing all the way and "making" the door-closed switch.
Man, this sounds like the electric range question in this same group. Just install some toggle switches and use a timer to tell you when to go to the basement and switch to the next cycle. Actually, Sears used to have repair manuals available at their web site. Don't if that's still the case.
You posted a site that I used to finally fix my washing machine... after I had a repairman "fix" it twice.http://www.tvwsolar.com
We'll have a kid
Or maybe we'll rent one
He's got to be straight
We don't want a bent one
He'll drink his baby brew
From a big brass cup
Someday he may be president
If things loosen up
Glad I could help . I also order parts through them.
you get the refrigerator magnet
I thinking you might give that site address to Jim...LOLhttp://www.tvwsolar.com

I like the toggle switch idea.
We tried the "kill power for ten minutes" as suggested by Whirlpool. It didnt' help. Wifey called a service guy. He came out and ran his testing equipment and told us to toss it. He would have had to replace both electronic modules at $400 each.
These new fangled electronic stuff is junk. But, so is the low tech stuff too.
I'll head to the big box and buy the cheapest unit there. For me, fewer buttons is better.
It's why we didn't buy a refrigerator with an ice dispenser -- just more to break down.

I don't know if I'm willing to give up my ice dispenser her in Texas LOL! I swear, it's been in triple digits for the last six weeks. We might have had a few cool days when it only got up to 99.
Yeah, it's been rough here too. We've had to run our AC for a whole week so far this summer.

A whole week? LOL!!!
I actually love the heat. I don't even have air in my truck and I really don't need it. The only problem is that sometimes I jump out and I'm soaking wet but I really don't care.
Yeah, we generally avoid using the AC, except when it's really humid. We have a whole-house fan that we use in the late PM and early AM to cool down the house, then we close it up for the rest of the day.I do use the AC in my van, though, because the dash area get really hot and heats up the vent air pretty bad for the first 10 minutes or so in the van.

"He would have had to replace both electronic modules at $400 each. "I could not find that model at several sites I checked. I found 200 adn 250, but not 240.Anyway 250 and 200 look like they use similar, but different parts. Here is one such control. There are several different models, but it appears that the difference is the color. And there are different prices on them. But here is one version.http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/ctrfs.aspx?part_id=3181274&model_id=5136333&diagram_id=954836While there are 2 boards they are sold at one unit. And it is $183.I checked and you don't have a Marcone, which is where I would go for something like that.Verify the model number and look for part numbers on the assembly. But it appears that you have at least 3 major parts distributors.http://www.apdepot.com/index.asp

Those are a couple of good links. One was in my old stomping grounds.
I think I could actually fix something if I read those manuals.
You were right. The model number was ggw9250pw2. Not 40.
It looks like I can get that part for under $200.
Thanks for the help. I now have to decide whether to go buy a cheap, simple, one button dryer (that is my preference) or fix this fancy schmancy model.
go buy a cheap, simple, one button dryer
Do they still make those?
Seems everything has way more buttons than I want and an instruction book with 100 pages of gibberish.

Update: S I-L hauled the unit in to a place that buys and sells used ones. His intent was to buy a rebuilt one for $175 and hope to get $50 for the fancy schmantzy one.
They ran a simple test on the door switch and immediately determined that it needed a $30 switch. They will install it for $40 per hour. He left it with them to fix it.
We called the service tech that told us $800 and asked for a refund. He said he would tear up the check that we paid for the service call.
Thanks for all the help. I now have a few good sites to browse through when I want to learn how an appliance works.

yes, we checked to make sure the door was closed LOL.
The switch was/is faulty. A simple jumper wire proved that. The original repair guy should have known how to do that.
That's the first thing I would have checked, after unplugging/plugging.

My wife did the plug, unplug thing and it didn't work. I was willing to bring in my sawzall and modified power saw to help but that's the extent of my appliance knowledge. I would expect, though, that the service techie would know how to do that simple test.
Yeah, like I said, it's the first thing I would have tested.

Large profit in those appliance brains, not much in a door switch.

Look on your local Craig's list. You can find loads of good deals on appliances that people are selling. You might even find one that works and they want someone to haul it away free.
Blue,
Sears parts direct...
full diagram, parts list etc.
