Can anyone give some feedback on what’s wrong with this picture. While I can’t say for sure if this is right or wrong, as I don’t know what a proper grinding job looks like but this does not seem right to me. I am having the brickwork on my house repointed. Step 1 which is grinding out the old mortar before they clean, which they just finished today.
A long list of problems to start with but here’s the bottom line. The spec for the grinding was supposed to be 1/2″ grinding of the old mortar joints. Please take a look at the attached pics. Alot of the joints are somewhat of a concave “V”, and in most if not all the places, the grinding looks sloppy. Some spots less than 1/4″ inch, etc.
For those that know what proper grinding is, please outline the mistakes you see in the pic so I have some feedback for the contractor. He came Highly recommended from a roofing contractor who does alot of quality roofing work in our area.

Looks to me like his laborer wasn't looking at your job as an opportunity. I'm sure your contractor will want this reworked - possibily with a diamond blade on an angle grinder.
Try buying lunch for the laborer. Maybe he'll be more inclined to treat you better.
Looks like he's been grinding your brick as much as the mortar. Not a very good job for a so-called professional. Also not a job I would be willing to pay for. Stop him now before you have all the brick damaged.
