Probably an impossible question to answer but here it is. During a 9″ rain storm last night a steady drip appeared at one corner of a sun room attached to the main house. The leak came in under the glass which was sealed and so could not have been entering from outside (I checked). The roof overhangs the area and the gutters are unclogged. Is it possible for water to get inside the shingle siding from an opening somewhere on the roof and percolate down to where the sun room joins the house? Has anyone seen anything like this? Any suggestions? Thanks for whatever advice you can offer.

Cause: torrential rain? With the winds that accompanied it, the water could have found its way into all sorts of unusual spaces in significant quantities, including blowing upwards through the shingles, soffits, flashing (sun room is a shed roof?), etc.
*Dear CPH,I sure can't fix that leak from here but, Andrew and Fred sure hit a couple of nails on the head. Allmost all buildings will have unusual leaks during some conditions. Most buildings do have small leaks that homeowners are unaware of or ignore. Joe

*I agree with Andrew among others.A recent customer replaced a new membrane roof with a newer one only to discover that with the crawl space door in the garage open and the right wind a vaccuum developed at the new membrane soffitt and sucked the rain into the new kitchen below the new membrane roof. That leaks for ya. Good luck!

*According to a buddy of mine who installed sunrooms, they are natural leakers. He claims that he used over 100 tubes of NP-1 on the average sunroom to keep them leak free. If part of your sunroom is under the overhang, it may have been hard to get it caulked properly. Since it is covered my the overhang it normally wouldn't leak, but a driving rain or 9" dumped fast would probably drive it up under the overhang and cause the leak you describe. At least that's one theory!
