dave if you have only a rought finish the grinder is the way to go. If the whole slab is bad with dips and such you need a bushing hammer with a thin-set and the help of a pro on this....
*I second what Fred said re: Sika products. But, you can use the grinding machine...it's a real bad boy, so you'll have fun with it. Your choice, overcoat or machine.A caveat: The machine produces an ultra-smooth finish, this would be a problem where tile or stone is to be bonded to the slab (leave it rough in those areas).

We poured a slab in a three car garage this past October. Professional concrete finishers finished it and then left. An hour after they left an unexpected 2" snow storm came through. My partner and I rushed down and covered the slab with plastic. Now the slab is flat but the finish is rough. It would be more than acceptable if it was inside where there is carpet.
One way to fix the problem is to pour a thin slab on top. Are there any other ways to fix this? Could the sufrace be polished somehow?
Thanks for the help in advance.
*DavedYou can rent a concrete floor grinder/polisherIt looks a lot like an oversized floor polisher, however instead of brushes or pads underneath, there is normally 3 grinding stones. It,s a real fun machine to learn on and you may want to hire a contractor to do this work.
