I know you guys are all above this kind of stuff, but I like to watch HGTV’s Weekend Warriors because it makes me feel better about the work I do.
But last night really, really took the cake.
A couple of buddies who rent a house were remodeling the living room by taking down a popcorn ceiling and adding a “Hardwood” floor.
After trying to wet down the popcorn with a Wagner sprayer, they went and got the the garden hose. Which, surprisingly worked pretty well.
Then they repainted the ceiling without doing any more finish work to it… Left the remains of scraping it w/ a 10-inch knife as some sort of texture, I guess.
Apparently the time I spent remudding the joints in my living room were a waste of time.
But the real showpiece was their “hardwood” floor. They used a finish gun to nail down 10 and 12-foot lengths of utility grade PINE 1×6, complete with wane, knots and splits.
Incredibly, after staining and slapping some poly on it, it looked pretty good. Anyone want to guess how long it stays that way?
I’d expect those square edges will start popping up with the first change in humidity.

The part I liked (cringe) was how all the mid-floor plank end joints were so perfectly lined up, alternating straight across the room.

ROFLMAO!!! If those guys ever want to sign-in here, I will gladly relinquish my screen name. I know when I've met my betters...

I think the most amazing thing about last night's show was that they also put up crown molding around a room that had several inside and outside corners to deal with.
And it was all done really nicely. Heck, they even used mitered returns to stop the crown where a ceiling vent was too close to the wall to allow it to run past.
Thursday on HGTV is my wifes favorite night of television.
Weekend Warriors
Designing for the Sexes
Designers Challenge
AND House Hunters (Oooh... That's nice.)

I will come forward and admitt I watch the show also. The first one I saw was the lady installing the wainscoating in here kitchen...used a paint stick to measure the lay out the cut out for the recpetacle..well needless to say she wasted a section of the wainscoating. The other one that comes to mind is the guy who wanted sound proof a room becaue his neighbors said they could hearing him playing his drums. They completed the project and said you coundn't hear the drums out side but I have to wonder how true that is since there was an really old window in the room that wasnt touched. Point is I dont know how well you can sound proof a room with a window in it......
