I meant to post this here in the first place. My neighbor has a Foley Belsaw planer for sale. Big tool. At least 3 hp motor. Mid 50s vintage (I think). If you are at all interested, let me know, I think it could be had for around 300.00. – jb

Dear Jim ` crazy legs',
That is a tempting piece of equipment, tell me more. Are there any knives with it? We are just an I-5 blast away so I'll listen.
Joe
*Hey Joe - where you goin' with that... ok, I'll stop. Yeah he has knives in it. It's a pretty nice tool. About 6 or 7 years ago I bought the partner to it, a Foley 12" planer/moulder. He got both from the widiow of an old woodworker. The one I had worked great, but I just didn't use it much and sold it. I think it will plane up to 6" thick and must weigh about 200 lbs. Got 3 or 4 belts on the same set of pullys, you know, a real planer. I was really tempted myself, but I'm tryin' to save up for a W+H moulder and I just bought a new roof for the shop, and my oldest just went off to college...and... If you want to come check it out, we are about 2 hours North of Portland, and we could have a cup of coffee or something while you're here. - jb
*Dear Jim,I don't think that is something I need right now. I was hearing moulder/planer when you were saying planer. A case of hearing what I wanted to hear. My Ryobi AP10 gets me by for now, especially since shop space is such a premium. If all this web talking keeps up I'm sure we will get that cup of coffee some time.Joe
*You know, with you and Casey there in Portland and JonC in Scio, and Sam D in Ballard and JimL in Seattle, and who knows who else around here, we could have a pretty good pot luck or somethin'! We should try to arrange some kind of get together. Hell, we're the only ones who see real loads of logs on a regular basis. - jb
*Jim, Is that Planer still available? Lemme' know....Sam
*As far as I know. You interested? - jb
*jb:Have to sneak in a contradiction. In Northern Wisconsin, we see a lot of trucks hauling real logs. Not Doug Fir or Redwood, mind you, but I think the idea was a log is a log! Also: I saw a truck in Mississippi lose a load of logs, pretty scary situation down there!MD
*Mad Dog, man, I didn't mean they aren't real LOGS. I meant they aren't real LOADS. We don't see 'em very often anymore, but it wasn't so long ago we'd see ONE LOG loads goin' down the road out here. I heard that right after Mt St Helens blew in 1980, they hauled THOUSANDS of one log loads out of there. Of course, when I was in the Northeast this summer, I saw many log trucks loaded with what looked like LIMBS. Very strange. - jb
*Them Canadians will buy anything if you give them par.
*It' a shame most of the stuff gets put on a ship and headed west.
*I've been hearin' for years that the Japanese sink those logs to preserve them. Do you think that possible?
