Just looking through a rival pub with 3 initials and saw the insert for Makita. Their Hybrid looks interesting. Impact, hammer, driver, drill and weighs 3.9# for 18v LI version. I am not a supporter on Makita because of some I have owned that to be honest were probably some of their lower end line. They do make some great stuff I am sure.

Makita 18v lithium hybrid is an interesting tool, but it's pricey at $399. I just bought two tools for less - the 18v lithium impact driver and hammer drill driver kit with two batteries, charger and case for $375 from CPO Makita.

This kit? Looks good.

That's the one. CPO Makita had a better price, though. The drill driver has huge torque, as does the impact driver. The only thing I don't like is the flimsy plastic case. It has clever compartments for accessories and a nice set of little bins in the cover for screws, bits, etc., but Bosch and Milwaukee cases are sturdier by far.BruceT

Really? I don't know about their drill cases, but I just bought a top of the line bosch jigsaw, and it's the worst case I've ever seen. Black and Decker quality, IMHO. I feel the same way about the case to their Bulldog roto hammers.
Their router kit has a good case, but I don't think the makita cases are that bad.
Not that I buy according to case or anything.zak

"so it goes"
My Makita 5" orbital sander came in a nice sturdy, well-made case. The drill/impact driver case is not nearly as sturdy and it is supposed to hold two tools weighing probably 8 lbs.BruceT
Back to the topic at hand...
Has anyone seen or used this tool yet? I am VERY intrigued as I need to buy a new drill/driver AND I'm considering an impact driver.
Killing all the birds with one tool in a less-than-four-pound package is VERY appealing to me.
My problem with that first 18v Lithium Makita drill/driver/impact/hammerdrill tool is that the thing weighs like 10lbs! My wet noodle arms can't work with it.
However, I did see a new Makita 18v Lithium drill/driver at Home Depot last night that was tiny. 3-1/2 pounds and I think smaller than my departed and beloved Panasonic 15.6v driver. It was black and white. If they had a kit with that and the impact driver for about $400, I'd get it today.
Otherwise: Who's used the Hybrid? And is it as cool as the specs make it sound?
Tyler tool lists it at $399 and back-ordered until Jan 7 2007.
http://www.tylertool.com/makita208.htmlIf it is anything like as good as the individual tools it replaces, it should be super.BruceT
I was reading the pullout flyer on Makita stuff, and it listed the Multi. What I really like is the high speed drilling Rpm, I think it said 2700? but I don't like no chuck.
How is $375 better than $299 with free shipping? They are out of stock now though.
Where did you find the Makita XLT hybrid for $299? Best I found was $399 at Tyler Tools.BruceT
I didn't, I was talking about this:
"Makita 18v lithium hybrid is an interesting tool, but it's pricey at $399. I just bought two tools for less - the 18v lithium impact driver and hammer drill driver kit with two batteries, charger and case for $375 from CPO Makita.

To which I responded with "This kit?" From HDT, impact with seperate drill driver, and you said "yes except it was a better deal at CPO Bosch".
I think I am lost.(:-)
Sorry for the confusion. I must have been lost too, or at least blind. I misread the price on your link as $399 (instead of $299) for the drill-driver/impact kit. As the old joke goes:"Why is your price so high? The other place charges $299."
"So why don't you buy from them?"
"I would, but they are out of stock."
"When I'm out of stock on that item, my price is $299 too."BruceT
True, but they did have them in stock for a while. When he does some of these deals he will blow out over 100 of an item in a few minutes. It takes him a while to get more stock.
Sort of like "Darn they charged you that much to build this? I would have done it for $$ less".

Thanks, I'll put that site on my bookmarks list for next time I shop for a power tool.BruceT
Some might say I am pimping for them but I have no connection other than they are my local Electrical and Plumbing supplier and friends. There have been several threads here about them and I am sure you will get positive feedback from others here who have bought from them.
If you buy anything you may get packing material from me as I recycle that stuff from my stash and my Brother-in-law's motorcycle shop to them to help cut their costs and keep it out of the landfill.
They are a real good bunch of folks (all family) and former electrical contractor by the way.
