Trying to track down something better looking than the metal U-shapped soffit grill usually available. It’s about 3 inches wide with half inch flanges.
Is anyone aware of options?

mark, all our soffits have been perf. vinyl for about 10 years now....
the best looking so far is Alcoa's Pro-Bead and their colonial J-mold..
the soffit is 3/8 profile and the J-mold is 5/8...
the only exceptions are on period architecture or trying to meet / match existing..
*Hey Mike,Are these grills shown in the FHB magazine anywhere and as for period materials where might I begin tracking this item?
*You can also see if there is an ABC Supply in your area; it's a large roofing and siding distributor throughout the US, and has stores in all 50 states I believe. They'll either have what Mike's referring to, or be able to get it. Their catalog alone has about 50 different venting products. Hope this helps.
*mark.. here's a pic. of one of our installs..the vents are in the grooves of the bead board...the colonial J-channel is on the fascia side of the soffit..the regular old style j-channel is just there to catch the top course of the wood clapboards...http://webx.taunton.com/WebX?233@@.eed77d3/81!enclosure=.eeed58a
*For our cedar-sided, North Woods house, we used T-111 stained to match the cedar and mounted horizontally under the soffits. 4" holes were drilled on 12" centers and backed with wire mesh. If you have serious squirrel problems, I'd use a metal screen door fabric backed by 1/4" hardware cloth. This posting only shows the house style, but the soffit covers make it look a lot more finished and the vents are pretty discrete:http://www.alaska.net/~dthomas/ournewhouse.html
