I’m installing a hearth for a wood burning stove. The manufacturer recommends micore board covered with 24 gauge sheet metal as a base for the hearth. Manufacturer’s instructions state that fire resistant tile can be used on top of the metal. Is it okay to bond the tile directly to the metal? Or should a tile backer board be epoxied to the metal first? If the latter, what type of epoxy would be appropriate?
