I’m wanting to dress up the foundation of the house CMU block wall, and am able to get some locally quarried sandstone pretty cheap. The stuff seems to break into slabs pretty easy if you split it with the grain of the rock (believe it or not). I’m thinking of splitting it about 2-3 inches thick, and applying it like a fake rock. I’m just not sure about getting it to adhere to the CMU block wall.
My time is cheap, but I don’t want to have to worry about this all coming off shortly after doing all the work.
Not being a big masonry guy, what do I need, and any techniques? I know enough to soak the stone & CMU to get better curing, anything else?

At that thickness I would say it needs a shelf to sit on (IMO).
