The furnace that makes hot water for heating in my home has 2 aquastats on it.
It had 3, the old sidearm domestic hw coil was removed, so now I’m down to 2.
Why 2?
Isn’t one enough? This is an OLD furnace, I believe it may have burned coal originally.
They are both at the rear of the unit, one is higher than the other.
What is a reasonable high limit temp to set the aquastats at for cast iron radiators?
Thanks

Think of one as a high limit safety control and the other as a setpoint operating control. If the operating control fails, the safety will shut down the boiler and prevent a catastrophic failure.
Boiler inspector said last year was the first in a LONG time that there were no boiler related deaths.
At design conditions you need about 180. Go to tekmarcontrols.com and check out the articles on outdoor reset. Huge savings are possible with reset.
