Arch fault or ground fault breakers?
Hi all,
Quick question….
For bedroom circuits do I need arch fault or ground fault circuit breakers?
Are they the same thing? I suspect not since they have different names but I am unsure. For sure they’ll be expensive though.
Thanks for the help

Only your podiatrist can tell you if you need an arch fault detector and if so you keep it in the clothes except when you are using it.
I believe that you mean Arc Fail.
You don't need an GFCI in a bedroom, but you MIGHT need an arc fault (AFCI) breaker in the bedroom.
It depends on what version of code and local admendments that your local is using.
The 99 NEC requires on bedroom receptacles. I don't have a copy of the 2002, but I believe that it was upped to be required on ALL bedroom outlets, that also includes lights and smoke detectors.
But, many locals have admended the NEC to change the AFCI rquirements.
Arc Fail? Maybe your podiatrist should proofread your postings.
They are different. What you want for your bedrooms are arc fault circuit interrupters. Your local code official can tell you if they are required where you are.
Ground fault circuit interrupters are used in wet locations, for example, bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoors.
Here's an explanation of the difference. http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=33843.9
Wow guys,
Thanks for the fast response. And yes indeed, it should have been arc!
Thanks again for the help. Didn't think about the smoke detectors but of course they should also be on an afci.
