Fellow carpenters, woodworkers and Finehomebuilding addicts…I have been roped into a project that requires 1/2″ x 1/2″ laquered-bronze bar stock to be applied to the edges of existing wall-hung travertine (Italian limestone) panels. Each panel is 3′ x 9′ x 3/4″
Polyurethane? Epoxy? Chewing gum?
Any secrets would be much appreciated

Dear Brian,
Those bars sound heavy. Glue sounds messy. The panels sound expensive.
Could you drill, countersink, tap, and screw the bars together discretely so that they would just hang around the perimeter of the panels? Then maybe bow the sides in so they hug the panels?
How many to do you have to practice on?
Mechanically, Fred
*Brian: I do not have a real clear picture in my mind of exactly where the bar stock needs to be attached. One thing you might consider is dbl. face tape. Not the scotch type but commerical tape. Rear view mirrors and such use this type of adhesive. Our local glass shop has applied strips of alum. trim to alum. store front on the exterior with such tape. (1/4" x 1" x 6' to 8' long trim) He has attached trim with this method for several yrs. no problems yet. Check with your glass shop and also with a trophy supplier. Some trophies use tape for part of the asssembly process. Let us know what you finally use. Ron

Hey Fred and Ron, thanks for taking the time out to reply.
I ran the double-faced tape past the architect and as usual he rejected the idea. The stone panels are suface-mounted on the wall and this bronze is to be applied to the 3/4" edge. He feels that the "tape-line" will distract from his idea of a clean line (metal against stone) I have a dream that someday a law will be passed requiring architects to spend a minimum of 10 years in the field working with the tools. The tape was a good idea and it would have made my job easy.
The drill and tap method will work on the top and bottom of my so called "picture frame" I plan on trying polyurethane to help hold it.
Thanks again guys for taking time out of your busy schedules.
