I am not a building inspector. I have been a carpenter and project manager. On this forum we have so many “code” related questions, I have often wondered how many posters are “building officials” and how others who are not, feel about such “code” posts and the posters.

I like code related posts. I prefer to build things once so the more I know about codes (sometimes) the better.
personally ... people who come in and play inspector annoy me.
especially the ones who admit they walked into someone elses jobsite and took a look around.
I don't understand it ... but maybe I just feel important enough already?
don't have to look for others mistakes to feel better about myself.
it's weird ... but then ... it's the internet ... so to be expected I guess.

I agree. Another thread here is going on like that right now.
OTOH, I do like looking at other job sites, mainly just to get new ideas and just see how other people do stuff, although I don't feel the need to report back here with "look at this f-up I saw today"...
To the OP: there are 2 BIs that come here that I know of. One has it in his "handle" the other is a former tradesmen that I guess just wanted a stable job. They both have my respect.
I look at other sites ... always looking for a better way to skin a cat.
I just don't walk thru new const framing at midnight with a flashlight and a notebook like it sounds some from here do!

I,m a concrete and soil inspector does that count, everybody knows my love for county inspectors are people that walmart wont hire..two ways to screw up concrete 1) concrete driver 2) concrete finisher
I took the ICBO test a long time ago. I'm not an inspector, but I don't mind giving opinions on code issues if I feel I have some knowledge about it. I also find an occasional question interesting enough to look the answer up myself. I have a shelf full of code books so it's like trivia.
I get along with most of my building inspectors. My new inspector is new and an ex-cop who I knew as a cop. We don't get along.

True building inspectors or licensed home inspectors are welcome. Monday morning quarterbacks are obnoxious.

I am a professional and I am required to be a certified code official as part of my job. I do not usually get out to the projects I review. The architectural firms responsible for the designs are responsible for inspections.
