Both.
If it is a safty issue where it ought not be, remove it.
If it is going to be put to use, create it.
Thanks for the replies folks, I've been under the impresion for a long time that you remove the arris . It's just I've got an older carpenter working with me who's turned this into a bit of a major deal ,mind you he is of the opinion that becaucse I come from New Zealand I can't even count to ten . It's slightly problematic because I'm the site supervisor . I'm not going say anything to him though as it would make worse . How do I deal with someone who is 12 years my senior and hates it if I ask him to do things my way? I'm no slouch when it comes to experience or work ethics , problem solving is my job. Maybe he can't stand positivity .
Your problem with an older worker under you isn't unusual.
I assume when you say that you ask him to do it your way, you're not trying to micro-manage him, but giving needed direction?
All you can do is your job. Be professional, polite, and firm.
If he has a problem with your age there's not a lot you can do.
Unless, of course, you dazzle him with your brilliance and baffle him with your bulls*** (g)
buic
no bull just keep on ploding , got him sorted now
"he is of the opinion that becaucse I come from New Zealand I can't even count to ten"What?? Are you implying that you CAN count to ten?? Are you sure you are from New Zealand???
:)

wood needs the arris for a paint and stain surface...i hate touching furniture that is sharp...most people do i would imagine.
Here for the challenged like me.
Arris
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Underside of a Groin vault showing the arris
Arris is an architectural term that describes the sharp edge formed by the intersection of two surfaces, such as the corner of a masonry unit; the junction between two planes of plaster or any intersection of divergent architectural details. Also the raised edges which separate the flutings in a Doric column.
The origin is from the Latin 'arista' meaning the beard of an ear of grain or the bone of a fish. See also arête.
An arris rail is a structural element, whose cross sectional area has two sides forming a right angled triangle. Arris rails are usually made of wood, and are manufactured by cutting a 45° chamfer from both edges of a timber, at the end of the boards. They are used for structures which require joining two timbers at right angles; for example, connecting a wood post and beam. Another common use is for the horizontal rails of timber fences, since the diagonal edges prevent water from collecting on top of the wood and thus rotting the timber. It also adds an element of security, since the fence is harder to climb.

I often equate arris to an egde of a steel card scraper used in woodworking. After honeing to a true 90 degree to the face, the Arris created is rolled over to form a hook, that hook is the cutting edge.
If a pc. of wood has an arris, it would feel sharp, and will NOT take paint on that apex, with out rounding or chamfering, because the films surface tension will pull away from the arris.
thanks cal...we always just called it puttin' an ease on<G>...can't wait to use it on an archy<G><G> Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press
Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess.
They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.
I can't help it if I'm lucky.
If I had said something like arris around my mother...........A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

She'd wup your arris.(I guess I always called it a "sharp edge".)
So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable Creature, since it enables one to find or make a Reason for everything one has a mind to do. --Benjamin Franklin
OOOhhh!! Now I understand, thanks.
So, basically, when we "break the edge" we're removeing the "arris"If you didn't have time to do it right the first time, how come you've got time to do it over again?
Yeah, you've finally got your arris in gear!
So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable Creature, since it enables one to find or make a Reason for everything one has a mind to do. --Benjamin Franklin
Actually you're rounding the aris over. It's just the intersection of two planes. When you sand it, it's still the intersection of two planes, but it's a softer version.
Thanks for the clarification, I was under the impression that the "aris" was the sharp edge created between two planes, not the actual intersection itself. Today, I'll try to use it in a sentence. If you didn't have time to do it right the first time, how come you've got time to do it over again?
I knew an arrishole once that was always using obscure words to impress me.
