I didn’t get any response last week when I ask this – the painters were all busy (good). Is there any change in the product needed to protect the new treated wood? (More copper and no arsenic).
The reason I ask is we just built a screened porch about 6 mo ago. I was just back and it looked like it had been coated with CWF or Cupinol (sp) but they hadn’t done anything to it.
The customer is wanting to know if they should coat it and what to use.
Thanks,
Fz

I just used Cabots waterbased transparent on something I did. That stuff penetrates and hardens within the wood. I drilled holes after I painted both sides of 5/4 boards and the stuff had penetrated right to the center. Sort of "candied" the wood--hard to describe, but like the wood had been permeated with honey that crystalized. I was impressed. Make sure the PT is dry when you use the Cabots--the PT I got sprayed the treatment out when I nailed it (like puncturing a hot dog on the grill!)!
There is also a product out called Seasonite that is suppose to be used on new PT and IIRC green cedar that controlls the exchange of mositure and is suppose to help keep it from checking. Also, in the past with CCA where was "preminum" boards available that had also been treated with a sealant. HD used to sell them under the Thompson brand. Have not seen any adverstised since the new PT lumber came out, but I wonder if he has some of that.
Call the company that supplied the material and ask them. They have tech support people to answer questions related to their products. Phone # is usually on the little tag on the end of the board.
"Phone # is usually on the little tag on the end of the board."-Thanks, I did not know that.
