I’m planning on rebuilding the deck on my house next summer. It is not attached to the house now, and I think it would be better if I attach it. I’m trying to find the best way to attach the ledger board. My house has Tyvek housewrap and vinyl siding. I stumbled across this “Attach-a-Deck” system at attachadeck.com. It looks pretty simple. Has anyone here used this?
I also ran across Ledgerlok ledger board fasteners, they seem like a replacement for regular lag bolts. I’m interested in this type of fastener rather than a cariage bolt because the basement is finished and I don’t have access to the inside behind the rim joist.
Anyone use either of these products?

I took a look at the install instructions for a vinyl sided house.
I would not do it that way. Eventho the bolt hole seems like it would be well sealed with all that caulk shot into the cup......what's to keep water from making it behind the vinyl siding around that cup?

I saw the results of a similar system up close - house built in the seventies. Lots of rot for me to repair.
bolts are always preferable to lags also.

I prefer to build decks unattached to the house if possible i.e. self supported with no ledger. Ya can't always do it but if you can, it eliminates all that flashing and the possiblilty of water penetration to the sheathing or sills.
