I’m in the planning stages of adding a patio cover to my home. The house is a two story brick and I will need to attach the ledger board to brick. I’m looking for any advice on the most successful way to attach the board. I plan on having a shingle roof on the patio cover so you have some idea on the weigh involved.

Hi Rick,
The brick on your home is most likely a veneer, in that it would not stand up if it weren't attached to the stud wall behind it with brick ties. As such, it is NOT something that you want to risk life and limb attaching a roof to. Patio roofs often have to have more structural efforts holding them down, than holding them up, as they are really sails in disguise. The real solution is to drill extra large holes through the brick, run long lag bolts through them, into studs, or newly installed blocking beyond. It's a real pain, but much less than watching your roof fall down. Good luck.
